Golf is a game that involves a lot of practice, skill and a lot of patience. Although, this game makes use of several techniques, the use of appropriate golf clubs can make a lot of difference. There are many different types of clubs, categorized as Putters, Woods and Irons.
Irons are basically used for short or sometimes long-range shots. The basic tips for the use of accurate irons are as follows:
If a golfer is playing around the green, it is advisable that he uses the 9-iron. The ball will gain less flight and roll more over the green.
The beauty of golf is that the whole course is a challenge. There is sand, water holes and perhaps the greatest hurdle- the trees. A golfer usually gets stuck when he has to hit a shot over the trees. The best tip here would be to play the shot that you can play and not what Tiger Woods can. So carry all the clubs you can when hitting over the tree. If you think that you can hit a shot over the trees with a 7- iron, also carry the 8 and the 9- iron with you.
Always be comfortable while playing irons. Your rhythmic movement plays a key role when you play with irons.
Be consistent with your game. Try to play the irons using the same grip that you would use for the other clubs. Don't grip too tight because it is a popular misconception that the more tightly you hold the grip, the more powerful your swing will be. Well, this is wrong.
Change your stance a bit when you use irons. Try not using a stance that you would usually use to play wedges. This is because the iron is thicker on the back of the blade. So, try to position yourself along with the ball keeping at least 2 inches from your feet.
Develop a good swing. If you prefer to use irons instead of wedges, it is advisable to improve your swinging tempo. A back swing would be very helpful in this case. Using a back swing will allow you to use your full swing. Once you achieve the full rotation of the back swing and you hit the ball at the sweet spot, allow the laws of physics to take care of the rest.
The trick is to get the lower part of your swing to make full contact with the ball. On achieving consistency with the help of these tips, your iron shots will become more powerful and precise.
