Without a proper golf grip, none of your golf swings will matter. To develop a good golf grip is the basic requirement for any beginner. The grip does not only mean the grip on your club, it means how you apply the holding technique to make your golf shots more effective and powerful. One of the best golf tips is never to hold the club by its 'grip' too tight. Also, find out which position works the best for you, as that will give you more power to improve your swing.
There are many sites and magazines that help you to improve your golf grip. The most common tips are as follows:
- Make use of optimum power from your wrists. The trick for achieving this would be to grip the golf club in between your fingers. Considering the sensitivity of the fingers, your shots are bound to be more precise.
- As discussed earlier, don't develop a tight grip. A tight grip often makes you lose control over the ball and it will mess up your golf swings. And you don't want the ball to go over the range, do you?
- Develop a simple grip. Remember, once you hold on to the grip make sure that you feel comfortable with it. Never try to compromise on the grip for the sake of your shot. Keep your grip intact
- Apply a proper golf grip. The method is quite simple. First hold the club with your left hand; it should be in the base position. Then grip the club using the right hand with your fingers just above your left hand. If you compare your left thumb with your hand, it should be in the 11 o clock position. If you have achieved this, then, you have developed a proper golf grip.
There are many types of golfing grips that can be developed.
The overlapping grip is the one that is most commonly used. The technique is the same as discussed above
In the baseball grip, as the name suggests, you hold the club just as you hold a baseball bat. Young golfers, female players and those with weak swings use this method.
The interlock grip looks a bit complicated, but it isn't. This shot is achieved by interlocking the index finger with the little finger of the right hand.
Remember, the best way to find your perfect grip is to see how comfortable you are using it. Take care of the rubber grips on your golf clubs. If they start wearing off, it is time that you get new grips attached.
